Our 2012 Limestone Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon represents a new pinnacle in our search for the true expression of our estate vineyard. Bottled August 2014, the 2012 Limsetone Cab is still tightly wound around a dark cherry core. It is the darkest of all our wines in color and flavor profile, with blueberry, licorice and spicy tobacco notes. It is concentrated in body with ripe, dusty-fine tannins. A barrel sample of this wine was scored at 91-93 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate reviewer Jeb Dunnuck. This is a wine to enjoy now and collect for aging.
2012 was the first year of our now-famous drought, with 60% of average rainfall and 110% of the average heat index (growing degree days). The resulting small berries and intense ripeness produced opulent wines with ample structure. The Limestone Reserve Cabernet is harvested only from our rich limestone clay soils. These well-watered vines maintain a fresh canopy even in withering late season heat, which allows the fruit to maintain a zesty natural acidity.
